Interesting. Not least, for me, because my recent Post of a Fantasy Top Ten includes 'Golden Witchbreed' by Mary Gentle, which literally has rocketships in it.

(Bonus for real pedants: in fact, probably not *rocket* ships as such. Chemical rockets are too slow even for really efficient interplanetary flight—current probes take years even to, say, Jupiter. Interstellar travel, if it's even possible at all, will require some other form of propulsion.)

But very often the nuts and bolts of how a protagonist gets to a world are beside the point. The rocket/starship/wormhole is a device, no more and no less than a way to get them there. In that sense they're no different from a wardrobe or any other portal.
