I was actually doing this in a scifi just for the lols. In the story, humans are trying to terraform Mars by jumpstarting the core rotation using tidal forces. The heroes get sent down to the surface to see how it's going, accompanied by three scientists: two geologists and a specialist in magnetic fields. I just let these three guys argue and argue about what's happening and what's causing it. Nobody is ever definitively correct because every new phenomenon has multiple explanations. The heroes are just trying to keep these guys alive, and these scientists are so busy studying/arguing that they keep almost falling into volcanic vents or being crushed by falling rocks. It's a hoot. I really should finish that story, but I got stuck researching Phobos. :-D
